Blog https://stevemuses.duckdns.org/index.php/blog Sun, 25 Jan 2026 17:51:45 +0000 Joomla! - Open Source Content Management en-gb Who's back pocket https://stevemuses.duckdns.org/index.php/blog/15-whos-back-pocket https://stevemuses.duckdns.org/index.php/blog/15-whos-back-pocket It was interesting to read what developers stand to profit by the proposed Greenbelt land swap.  I have to ask myself, why would a developer buy a plot of land  in the Greenbelt when development isn't allowed in the Greenbelt?  Moreover, why do so as recently as a couple of months ago when the Greenbelt has been in place for seventeen plus years?  If I was a developer and I knew that I was not going to be able to develop on the land I was going to buy there is no way I would commit fifty plus million dollars just to let the land sit there.  It seems developers had inside knowledge of what the Ford government, the same Ford government who said the Greenbelt was untouchable, was about to allow development on the Greenbelt.  This re-elected Ford govenment has made some stupid decisions since being re-elected in the spring.  The Greenbelt is prime agricultural land - does he expect farmers to get produce from rocks!!  That plus with the changing climate building over more land and permitting more urban sprawl is not what we need -- or want!  Buckle up - there's another four years of stupid decisions coming!

]]> Blog Fri, 18 Oct 2019 20:47:18 +0000 Artifical but not Intelligence https://stevemuses.duckdns.org/index.php/blog/13-artifical-but-not-intelligence https://stevemuses.duckdns.org/index.php/blog/13-artifical-but-not-intelligence One of the most significant areas in technology today is Artificial Intelligence.  Last year during an interview on driverless cars, the person being interviewed commented that if driverless cars were compared to the airline industry, the today's driverless cars were equivalent to about a 1930s aircraft.  AI is everywhere these days - robots, thermostats not to mention how much is being embedded into the Internet of Things (IoT).

If AI still has a lot of maturing to do, then why would a premier who says the province is open for business go and cut investment by billions of dollars for such a strategically potential industry - what was Ford thinking (forgive me, that was a momentary lapse - clearly he was not thinking!).  Then again, I guess someone whose business has been deco labels and the potential of AI to make such a business redundant, Ontario isn't open for all business - only those businesses that keep us in the 20th century and not the 21st century or beyond.

]]> Blog Wed, 22 May 2019 18:41:10 +0000 That motto https://stevemuses.duckdns.org/index.php/blog/12-that-motto https://stevemuses.duckdns.org/index.php/blog/12-that-motto It's been almost a year now since the Wynne government was voted out and replaced by the Ford government.  It seems most times the Ford government holds a news conference, they have the motto "For the People" on the front of the lecturn.  Some have mused that it was missing a word and was really supposed to read "For the Ford People" because of all the appointments to government posts of Ford's collegues.  However, on reflection and what has become much clearer is that the slogan should actually read "For the People's Money".

Think about it - if the Ford government was really for the people would they have cancelled the cap and trade which was bringing in billion of dollars?  Would they be spending our dollars for a lawsuit against a price on pollution because they cancelled the cap and trade (a lawsuit lost by a fellow premier)?  Would they be spending our tax dollars printing and requiring retailers to post misleading signage on gas pumps about the price on pollution?  Would they be downloading costs onto the lower levels of governments in the hope people don't blame the Ford government for the resultant increase in municipal taxes?  Would they be paying for political partisan media with your and my tax dollars?

Clearly, the Ford government is once again misleading the people with their "For the People" slogan - what they really mean is "For the People's Money".
